  • What is the temperature/climate like?
Located in the mountains of Alajuela Province, about 15 km northeast of Nuevo Arenal and an elevation of about 500m, the climate in Protopia is a Caribbean climate rather than a central or pacific climate, making Protopia wet—yet cool and green year round. In general, the weather in Protopia can be described as having two distinct seasons: wet and dry. During the wet season, the weather tends to be muggy and overcast, with sun coming out in the morning or afternoon, however it is common not to have much sun for days; while the dry season is characterised by mostly sunny, with partly cloudy conditions and sometimes even rain. The temperature at Protopia remains warm, humid and perfectly cool throughout the year, ranging between 18°C to 30°C. However, it's important to note that due to the humidity and the possibility of temperature fluctuations, it is advisable to pack accordingly. Layering is recommended, as it allows for easy adjustment to changing weather conditions. Additionally, bringing materials that dry quickly or do not absorb and hold moisture is highly recommended to ensure comfort in the varying climate.
  • Does Protopia have reliable wifi connection?
We take pride in providing a high-speed internet connection STARLINK that is ideal for digital nomads and remote workers seeking a serene and productive environment. • Where does the water come from and how is it sourced?
At Protopia, we are blessed with an abundance of water. Two serene rivers gracefully intersect our farm, providing a natural source of water that is as pure as it is refreshing. We also have a natural spring for drinking water, which we additionally filter with a Berkey water filter. However, it's important to note that the water in our cabins, showers, and toilets is sourced directly from the river, rather than the spring water used for drinking. This is due to the elevation of the natural spring not providing enough pressure. Rest assured, we prioritize the well-being and comfort of our guests, ensuring that the water from the river is carefully managed and maintained.
  • What should I bring for my stay?
In alignment with our values and commitment to preserving nature, we kindly request that you bring organic and natural hygiene products that are environmentally friendly. Additionally, we kindly ask that you minimize the use of plastic and reduce any unnecessary waste during your visit. While we provide a limited number of yoga mats, we recommend bringing your own to ensure your comfort during yoga and meditation sessions. A flashlight or headlamp will prove invaluable for nighttime activities and exploring the serene surroundings. Don't forget to pack a water-resistant jacket, or better an umbrella, to shield you from unexpected drizzles, a long-sleeve shirt & pants for added comfort, and a natural bug repellent to ward off any unwanted visitors.
