WHAT IS PLAYTOPIA

Every edition has a theme.
Every theme attracts its people.

Playtopia is a series of curated events at Protopia, a co-living, arts and community center between Arenal and Tenorio volcanoes in Costa Rica. Each edition is built around a specific theme: agroforestry, filmmaking, photography, entrepreneurship, movement, arts, bio construction, or whatever wants to emerge next.

You don't just attend — you co-create. We design the container, invite the right facilitators, and bring together a small group of aligned humans. You bring your craft, your curiosity, and your willingness to live in community.

The result is something you can't replicate at a conference, a retreat, or on your own: real creative output born from shared living, shared meals, shared land, and shared purpose.

THE FORMAT

How a Playtopia works

We curate the theme

Each Playtopia is designed around a focused topic — cacao agroforestry, documentary filmmaking, regenerative business, somatic arts. We invite expert facilitators and design a program that balances structure with freedom.

You apply to join

Spots are limited to keep the group intimate — typically 25–35 people. We review applications to ensure alignment with the theme and with the community. This isn't first-come, first-served. It's the right people, together.

We co-create for two weeks

Morning movement, themed workshops, afternoon co-working or hands-on projects, communal meals, evening connection. You arrive as individuals with a shared interest. You leave with tangible output and lifelong bonds.

Themed Workshops

We give back more than we take. Part of our land was cattle pasture — we're turning it into a food forest. When trees fall, we build with them. The cycle continues.

Morning Movement

Yoga, breathwork, and somatic practices to start each day grounded and present.

Connection Practices

Authentic relating circles, community games, and shared rituals for deep human bonding.

Nature Adventures

Volcano hikes, waterfall swims, hot springs. The jungle is always at your door.

Beyond the theme, every edition shares these foundations.

Nourishing Meals

Three daily farm-to-table meals, mostly sourced from the land. Eaten together, always.

Co-Working Time

Starlink-connected workspace in the jungle. Time to integrate, create, and do your own work.

Fire & Music Nights

Evening gatherings under the stars. Rhythm, flame, and whatever the night brings.

Closing Ceremony

A ritual to honor the journey, share reflections, and carry the experience forward.
